What is a Super Tuscan wine?

Super Tuscan wines are a category of Italian wines that typically blend traditional Tuscan grape varieties, such as Sangiovese, with international grape varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah. These wines are known for their bold flavors, complexity, and high quality, often defying the strict regulations of traditional Italian wine classifications. The term "Super Tuscan" was coined in the 1970s to describe these innovative and non-conformist wines that challenged the conventions of Italian winemaking.
